Defender, published by Williams in 1981, is a side-scrolling shoot 'em up in which you command a starship flying over-scrolling landscapes to protect humanoids from invading aliens. Guide a left-right flight yoke to avoid, blast lasers, release smart bombs, initiate hyperspace jumps, and rescue abducted astronauts. Frantic firestorms challenge your hand-eye coordination.

The tall cabinet has side artwork of space combat and alien spacecraft on red and black backgrounds. A glowing "DEFENDER" marquee crowns the 19-inch CRT. The control panel is slanted with a yoke-attached joystick and five buttons for fire, smart bomb, hyperspace, and thrust. Crackling audio comes from a mono speaker.
