Phoenix (1980) by Taito has you piloting a laser cannon that shoots down hordes of alien birds and a mothership boss. Moving left and right and shooting are both done through a straightforward joystick and button, and a shield is activated briefly to block bullets. Levels get progressively faster and harder.

The standing cabinet has beautiful side art of a blazing phoenix rising against a black background. An angular metal control panel houses the joystick, fire button, and shield switch. A backlit marquee top of the 19″ screen flashes "PHOENIX" in text rendered like embers, and a mono speaker creates sharp laser and explosion sound effects.
